Safer Internet Day – Better Internet for Kids

This Safer Internet Day with the slogan "Together for a better internet" is celebrated today, February 6th 2024. This year the focus will be on "Better Internet for Kids". The vision is for children to be protected, empowered and respected online.

The European Union's new strategy for a Better Internet for Kids (BIK+), adopted in May 2022, underscores the commitment to ensuring that every child is protected, empowered, and respected online. It aims to create age-appropriate digital services, where children can safely navigate and thrive in this digital age.

In today's digital age, the internet is an integral part of children's lives. Children are naturally curious and impressionable, making them vulnerable to various online risks such as cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content, and privacy breaches. As adults, it's our responsibility to empower and support children in their digital journey. This involves maintaining an open dialogue, educating them about online safety, and setting a positive digital example.

Education and Awareness

Teach your kids about online safety. Discuss topics like privacy, the importance of not sharing personal information, and how to recognize and deal with cyberbullying.

Be a Role Model

Demonstrate good online habits for your children to emulate. Your online behavior sets a precedent for them.

Encourage Critical Thinking

Teach your children to question what they see online and not to take everything at face value, fostering a healthy skepticism.

Stay Informed

Keep up-to-date with the latest online trends and potential risks. This knowledge will help you guide your children more effectively.
