Do you have one of the world’s most used passwords?

Every year, NordPass conducts a survey to map out the most popular passwords in the world. This year, they also examined which types of digital platforms where insufficient passwords are most prevalent. It turns out that it is especially on streaming services that we create the weakest passwords.

According to NordPass, these are the ten most common passwords:

  1. password
  2. 123456
  3. 123456789
  4. Guest
  5. Qwerty
  6. 12345678
  7. 111111
  8. 12345
  9. col123456
  10. 123123

If you use one of these, you can count on the attacker guessing the password within a second!

Fortunately, you can make your digital life more secure with a few simple steps

  • Create long passwords: Feel free to use self-composed sentences that are easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess. Avoid using readily available information about yourself and your loved ones - such as names, dates of birth, addresses etc.
  • Use unique passwords: A simple rule is to never reuse passwords for multiple services. To make it easier to remember them, you can write passwords down, either in a password-manager or in a paper book. Just make sure no one else have access to it!
  • Use two-factor authentication where possible: Using authentication services makes it more difficult for unauthorized persons to log into your accounts, as the password alone will not suffice.
